The rustem (rustemul) has two beats, short-long, usually written in 5/16. The timing is not perfectly in 5/16, sometimes it will drift nearer to 3/8, and in some areas it looses the asymmetry, getting close to 2/4.

These dances generally consist of crossing steps and galloping steps. The form of the dance will take on typical steps for the region. There are many different names for dances of the Rustem type. In Dobrogea it is known as the Paiduşca in common with the northern Bulgarian version called Pajduška. A version of the Pajduška has also spread to the Slavs of Macedonia and also to the Greeks who call it Baidouska. In common with some other shared dances, the Greek version is quantised to a regular 3/8 rhythm.
